A local animal rescue group is working to give puppies a holiday present of their own; a home.
Today Lucky Puppy Dog Rescue & Kennel finished up their week-long food drive at Prosperity Bank in Lynn Haven and brought along a few VIP guests. Lucky Puppy Rescue is a non-profit organization that takes in puppies and adult dogs. They have a 100-acre farm in Bonifay where they keep the pups and train them to be good companions while they are waiting to be adopted. The rescue runs solely on private donations of money, food and other supplies for the animals.
“These dogs have no one else to care for them so it’s kind of a community thing we try to get help from others so we can do more for them,” says Teri Mattson with the rescue group.
If you missed the puppies today but are interested in adopting, Lucky Puppy Rescue will be at PetSmart on 23rd Street in Panama City Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

This is all well and good but why is it there are few organizations to help cats and kittens. I have two “rescues” that are an absolute joy to have. They don’t keep me up all night barking for no reason. They pretty well take care of themselves and there is no poop to step in all over the yard. They don’t lick their butts then want to slobber all over my face. All they ask for is love and a little attention. Oh, a fresh litter box doesn’t hurt their feelings, either. Sure, they are given a bad rap for being so independent but that’s all part of who they are. You won’t find a more loving creature than the two I have. It’s kind of like they know that they are wanted and not just left to die on the side of some road somewhere. There’s just something special about two little guys running to meet you at the door when you come home just wanting to be petted and played with, kind of like a dog will. Something to think about, folks.
