Freeport, FL (October 26, 2009) – The Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident of around 30 persons fighting at the Freeport Sports Complex over the weekend. Late Sunday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Dispatchers received a call in reference to people throwing things at the referee in a Hispanic soccer league game.
The referee had reportedly been chased twice around the field, and then briefly cornered. In addition, there was a fight involving more than two dozen, or more folks fighting on the side of the complex. There was reported “no” weapons involved.
At one point, the referee locked himself in his vehicle for protection. Several team members tried to help him. About one-dozen Walton County Sheriff’s Deputies’ responded to the altercation in force, and the crowd quickly dispersed and left the complex. There were “no” reported injures.
