A group of Bay County citizens begin celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday today by holding a march.
The ACURE organization put on the parade. The day started with a short prayer and ceremony at the Bay County Courthouse. The march turned into a drive when the rain continued to pour down on participants. Those involved say that they were determined, even in the rain, to turn out and celebrate Dr. King’s birthday. They say that they’re marching for the young generation and that it’s important to remember where they came from: “Martin walked through all kinds of conditions. he walked through fire, he walked through water, he walked through bulldogs, I mean he walked through all kinds of conditions and for us to stop walking just because of a little rain it’s fair weather civil rights workers. It just don’t make it work.”
ACURE will also host a festival in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday from 10-4 at McKenzie Park.
