A construction company in Walton County now has to shell out more than a million dollars in damages, but it’s not their fault.
O.B. Laurent Construction is offering a 5,000 dollar reward for information regarding the December 18th vandalism of a vacation home in Seaside.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and they’re determined to catch the culprits.
Evidence of a work in progress riddles the vacation home on 92 Tupelo Street under construction in Seaside. The homeowners should be moving in this week, but an unfortunate incident set the construction back. Warren Laurent is the co-owner of O.B. Laurent Construction. He says “We were all very surprised, I guess, to see our work that we’ve been putting together for 3 years all in a state of disarray.”.
They found the door ajar and water flooding from every orifice. Someone entered and plugged up the sinks, bathtubs, and showers, leaving the water running, soaking all 3 floors of the house. The damage is catastrophic: “…right now we’re just guessing somewhere between one and two million.”
But that’s just a modest price. Contracting consultants with Laurent’s insurance company is surveying damage to see exactly how much they will have to shell out, but included in the price is about $35,000 worth of electronics: “We don’t know yet. We’re in the process of putting together estimates today.”
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is handling the case. Sheriff Michael Adkinson says they do have suspects: “…at this point the investigators on the case are pursuing some significant leads and following up with some pretty significant physical evidence in the case.”
...that’s why the homeowners and Laurent Construction are offering a $5,000 reward for information. They’re determined to catch Seaside’s version of the wet bandits.
