It’s the story of tragedy, hope and love all in one.
It began in Haiti and ends in Bay County, as a twin brother and sister begin a new life.
News 13 first brought you the story of the Cassel family’s adoption dilemma last week.
It’s been three years and eight days since the Cassel family picked out their newest additions and 13 days since a 7.0 earthquake turned their world upside down.
The disaster had a silver lining, expediting the process to bring 4-year-old twins Kayla and Kaleb home.
Friday, Kathy and Richard Cassel got the call that 80 kids from their Port au Prince orphanage would be coming to Florida to meet their adoptive families.
An Air Force cargo plane full of refugees arrived Saturday afternoon, a special moment for Richard, who is retired from the Air Force himself.
After hours of waiting and processing, Kayla and Kaleb were released with the Cassels.
974 days after they began the process to bring the twins home, the family is now together.
The Cassel family has blogged about the entire adoption journey. For a link, click here.
