The holidays are here and while the malls are filled with shoppers, local blood donation centers are bare.
So far this month, the Bay Med Blood Donor Center has only collected 345 units of blood. They need 600 to meet their needs.
The center has tried promotional days where people can receive gift cards to Wal-Mart for donating blood. In fact, they’re hosting another one this Monday. They also send their blood mobiles around Bay County hoping to interest people while they’re out and about.
If you’re looking to donate blood, there are a few general requirements to meet. You have to be at least 110 pounds, at least 17 years old, possess a photo i.d, and be in good general health. Also, if you’ve donated blood recently, you have to wait 56 days since your last donation to donate again
