News 13 wants to make sure you and your family stay healthy.  That is why we are beginning a new, weekly segment called, “What’s Going Around.”  We’ve teamed up with Dr. Timothy Nichols, Medical Director for Emerald Coast Urgent Care in Panama City Beach.

Dr. Nichols cautions you to be aware of upper respiratory illnesses, which he is seeing a lot of right now.  While he says routine colds are viral, a sinus infection or bronchitis may develop, which means antibiotics may be needed.

Dr. Nichols says it’s also important to watch for flu-like symptoms such as a high fever and chills, body aches, weakness, congestion, cough and headache.  To avoid contacting the flu or any other upper respiratory illness, Dr. Nichols says it’s best to avoid contact with others who are sick and wash your hands often.
