Swine Flu is declining Florida, but health officials are urging you to remain vigilant against the illness.
The latest flu report from the Florida Department of Health shows there are no counties with widespread flu activity right now. It’s the first time in five months that Florida has recorded no widespread flu activity.
Another 18 counties are reporting no flu activity at all. That hasn’t happened since early June.
H1N1 flu peaked in Florida in mid-September when 19 counties had widespread cases. It’s been dropping ever since.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control reports Florida has received about four million doses of H1N1 vaccine so far, while another million are in the pipeline.
That means some counties have enough vaccine now to offer it to everyone. Previously, only high-risk groups were eligible to receive the vaccine. Check with your local health department or doctor for details.
Health officials say there’s plenty of time to get vaccinated because we’re still months away from the traditional peak of flu season.
Forty-nine counties are reporting lower levels of flu right now. That’s down from 51 last week.
Health Department spokeswoman Susan Smith reminds you to help prevent the spread of flu by washing your hands frequently, staying home when you’re sick and coughing or sneezing into your arm.
