According to Stan Kirkland of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, searchers found a body floating in the water in Sutton Lake Sunday evening.
Kirkland said that searchers were out looking for a fisherman that had been reported missing Sunday afternoon. In their search, rescue workers came across a body that had been in the water “for some time.”
John Mark Slappey of Georgia has been missing in the Apalachicola River since Dec. 20 of last year. Workers had continued their search of the river after Slappey was swept over the Jim Woodruff Dam while fishing.
“I will not speculate on the identify of the person,” Kirkland said. “The body has been turned over to the Medical Examiner’s office in Tallahassee and we hope to have an identity this afternoon.”

Kirkland said that the Sutton Lake area is 45 miles “by water” from the dam.
