A conversation about a collaborative military study puts officials from Bay County, Panama City Beach and Panama City in one room. Today a meeting was held to discuss joint land use near our naval base.
It’s all about interaction. The military wants to create a compromise between community interests and military needs. Basically, they take a look at land use, safety issues and business regulations.
At the meeting, naval representatives provided county and city officials with recommended strategies. The goal is to enhance communication and cooperation between the military and surrounding districts. They want to balance military compatibility issues with commercial property rights.
The affected areas surround the naval base, that’s located on Thomas drive, and across waters that extend from Panama City Beach to Panama City.
“We want to make sure that the military understands that Bay County, Panama City Beach, and Panama City are doing everything they can do to make their mission work here,” said Bay County Commissioner, Mike Thomas.
The cities, along with the county approved a motion to accept the findings of the joint land use study. No legislative decisions have been made.
