(AP) - Bobby Bowden says he has not made a decision about his coaching future at Florida State and plans to meet with university officials again Tuesday.
Speaking at his home Monday evening, Bowden tells The Associated Press that he is still sifting through “options presented to him.” Bowden met with Florida State President T.K. Wetherell and
athletic director Randy Spetman for an hour Monday morning.
The Tallahassee Democrat and ESPN.com are reporting Bowden is expected to announce his retirement. When asked about those reports, his wife, Ann, says nothing had
been finalized - “that’s why they’re meeting tomorrow.”
Earlier this year, Bowden had strongly suggested he wanted 2010 to be his last season. He has 388 career victories, second only to Penn State’s Joe Paterno among major college coaches.

The Tallahassee Democrat is reporting that Bobby Bowden will announce his retirement on Tuesday.

Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden says there will be an announcement Tuesday on his future at the university.

Today Bowden told Seminole boosters at his weekly luncheon that he met with FSU President T.K. Wetherell and Athletic Director Randy Spetman for about an hour this morning.

Bowden said he would meet again with Wetherell and Spetman on Tuesday to talk about their options and to, quote, “finalize it.” Bowden insisted he would make the final decision on his future at FSU.

The Seminoles suffered an embarrassing loss to the Florida Gators on Saturday, prompting Bowden to say he needed to do some soul-searching about his future.

Then on Sunday, Bowden said he wanted to return in 2010 for his 35th season at Florida State, but that decision could not be finalized before he met with Florida State administrators.

“I met with President Wetherell this morning. He and Randy. We talked about an hour about my future here at Florida State and so tomorrow we’re going to meet again and have an announcement whether or not I stay here at Florida State or continue another year. So maybe that will be the end of that. That’s about all I want to comment on that.”

“I won’t say. I won’t say. We’ll finalize it tomorrow.”

FSU Athletic Director Randy Spetman offered a series of “no comments” to reporters after the luncheon when asked about the talks over Bowden’s future. Spetman would only describe today’s meeting as cordial.

“It’s always cordial with Coach Bowden. He’s a good man.”

FSU won its first national title in 1993 and another in 1999 when the team went undefeated. But the Seminoles’ fortunes haven’t been nearly as good in recent years, finishing this year with a 6-6 record. The football team has gone 16-16 over the past four seasons.

“Florida State will be back. You take the 80’s - Miami dominated the 80’s, they dominated it and then we dominated the 90’s and now Florida is in domination. I wish ours did. Nobody’s lasted as long as ours did. But there’s no doubt in my mind Florida State will come back.”

Bowden has been on a one-year rollover agreement with the university for several years but that ends after the 2010 season. The university has agreed to pay offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher 5 million dollars if he is not elevated to head coach by January 2011.

Neither Spetman nor Bowden would comment on their deliberations.

Bowden’s 388 career wins are second only to Penn State’s Joe Paterno among major college coaches.
