Behind the scenes footage of a new feature length film, is shot on a familiar set to Bay County. The movie is called Born & Raised, and its crew helped rake in thousands of dollars to the community.
“Watching the meals that they bought at the local restaurants, I actually sold some of my stuff to the crew, it does make an impact,” said Canoe Shop owner, Pat Lamar.
Even Lamar’s shop in St. Andrews set the scene for several of the movie’s shots. He lost two days of business for the shoot, but hopes to make up for it in the long run.
“Just having my shop out there in a movie, its fantastic, you can’t buy that type of advertising,” said Lamar.
The area may not look like a Hollywood set, but that’s the point. Film crews want that hometown feel.
“The old fishing community and the new condos, still meshing together, is what is the appeal,” said Bay County Film Commissioner, Julie Gordon.
Take a look at how much this one film brought in. According the film commission, it took 21 days to produce and each day about $25,000 was spent. That creates a potential impact of more than $500,000.
In fact, if you total up all the film-related projects from October to December, like films, commercials and TV-shoots, it’s estimated to add up to nearly $1 million.
“I’m hoping that this year, even though I had a little budget cut, I can stick to my $16 million of economic impact. That’s what I made last year,” said Gordon.
Born & Raised is in post production, but it’s already painted a positive economic picture in this community.
