A man injured while working at Smurfit-Stone Container is now being treated at the Augusta Burn Center in August, Georgia.
Benjamin Fern Nunery, Sr., 63 of Wewahitchka, was sawing when a spark caught his shirt on fire Wednesday. Nunery is a contract worker at the mil employed by Quality Plus Services.
Nunery underwent two surgeries Thursday and is now reported to be breathing on his own and is in good spirits. Nunnery is suffering from third degree burns to 30% of his body, and first and second degree burns on another 30% of his body. Family members say he’s made it a long way but still has a long road of recovery ahead.
You can help Nunery and his family by donating to the B.F. Nunery family expense account at Emerald Coast Federal Credit Union branches in Port St. Joe and Wewahitchka. The account number is 71150-014.
