Investigators with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division have arrested the girlfriend of a local man found badly beaten in his home at 5811 Sunset Avenue on Panama City Beach.
Lauren Elizabeth Cohen initially stated to investigators she found her boyfriend Stephen Cosson in his home on Sunset Avenue on the floor but was not alarmed, thinking he was asleep. She left the home and did not return until 11 am this morning. She noticed Cosson had not moved. A neighbor tried to revive Cosson but could not. 911 was called and Cosson was taken to a local hospital where he is now listed in critical condition.
Investigators questioned Cohen who changed her account of the incident, admitting that she and Cosson had had an altercation shortly after midnight and she struck him with a baseball bat in the head.
Cohen, DOB 8/8/81, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery.

This is such a shame, I feel so badly for Steve, his family and for Lauren too. They are my neighbors and friends. They have been together for 5 years and I know they love each other. They have been having problems of financial stress since they both lost their jobs in Sept. They have been both wound tight with the holidays upon us and the monthly bills comong in. All I can say is Lauren finally snapped under the pressure. But why she hurt Steve, I don’t know. All I know is I love them both.
Again, drinking doesen’t solve anything when you are stressed or upset and it usually makes things much worse.
Please pray for Steve’s recovery.
