Superintendent Bill Husfelt has recommended Teresa Holzman to serve as the new principal of Oakland Terrace School for the Visual and Performing Arts. She is currently the assistant principal at Parker Elementary School. Pending School Board approval, her new assignment will begin July 1, 2010.
Holzman started her teaching career in 1987 as a kindergarten teacher at Callaway Elementary School. Following that, she taught at a number of other elementary grade levels at Millville Elementary School and Oakland Terrace. She accepted her first administrative position in 2005 at Oakland Terrace, moving to Parker Elementary School as assistant principal in 2008.
“I feel very humbled and blessed for the opportunity to return to Oakland Terrace School for the Visual and Performing Arts! I am excited to begin working with the students, parents and staff at such a great school. Becoming Principal at Oakland Terrace is a dream come true. At Oakland Terrace, I served as a classroom teacher, reading coach and Administrative Assistant. I have watched Oakland Terrace grow and become recognized in the county as the leader of integrating the Arts and curriculum to inspire and motivate students. My heart is at Oakland Terrace!,” Holzman said.
A product of Bay District Schools, Holzman attended Southport Elementary School, Mowat Junior High School and graduated from A. Crawford Mosley High School . She is a graduate of Gulf Coast Community College and holds bachelor’s, master’s and specialist degrees from Florida State University-Panama City. In addition to serving as a school administrator, other leadership roles include her membership on the Response to Intervention Leadership Team, Reading Leadership Team, Talk 12 Committees and School Advisory Councils.
She is a member of the Bay County Reading Association, Florida Association of School Administrators, and National Association of Elementary School Principals. She is in the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, Ninth Edition (2005) and received the Stavros Award, Free Enterprise Educator’s Hall of Fame K-5, from the Gus Stavros Center at Florida State University.
