Bay County utilities rank first place in Florida. The water division received an “Outstanding Distribution System” award for excellence in operations. The division is in a category with about 170 water systems of the same size.
“It kind of as a utility puts Bay County on the map statewide,” said Bay County Water Division Superintendent, Don Hamm.
The award, presented by the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association, is based on criteria that include things like: water quality, professionalism and customer service.
“It means the word to us, to be recognized basically by our peers around the state,” said Hamm.
In years past, the water division didn’t qualify.
“We put as a goal to get to, and we’ve gotten there and that’s huge for us,” said Hamm.
It’s an important job to get right, because it directly impacts most people in the county. When you turn on your tap, that water comes from the utilities department. The utilities department serves more than 150,000 customers and pumps out about 27 million gallons annually.
“We like to take pride in our customer service, that’s something that we really strive to do well in and quality of water that we provide to our customers,” said Hamm.
The water division believes customers can view the award as a signal of success.
“That should be assurance of the dedication of the hard work that the staff puts in to make sure that they have good drinking water at the end of the tap,” said Hamm.
So as you turn on the faucet, rest assured the water service you receive is top notch.

This is shocking. This award apparently has nothing to do with water quality. Of course many things are never reported. For example, when they were unconcerned when the chlorination system broke down. Afterwards, they reported it as a ‘turbidity problem’ when they thought the public might find out about the water quality failure.
